Handwashing is one of those habits everyone knows and almost nobody does properly. A few small corrections make a real difference โ for germs, and for how your hands actually feel by the end of the day.
1. Twenty seconds, not five
A quick rinse under the tap barely disturbs germs sitting in the folds of your hands. Lather with Miss Chemist Handwash and rub for a full 20 seconds โ palms, between fingers, and thumbs, which are usually the most missed spot.
2. The five moments that matter most
- Before cooking or eating โ the most direct route germs take into your body.
- After using the washroom โ non-negotiable, every time.
- After touching raw vegetables, meat or fish โ before touching anything else in the kitchen.
- After coming home โ from outside, from the market, from school or work.
- After touching pets โ even your own, well-loved ones.
3. Moisturise right after
Frequent handwashing can dry out skin over time. A formula enriched with aloe vera and glycerin, like ours, helps offset this โ but for very dry hands, a light moisturiser right after washing keeps skin comfortable through the day.
None of this takes more than a few extra seconds per wash. Multiplied across a day, it's one of the simplest, highest-impact habits for a healthy home.
